PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering
A PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) provides a rigorous foundation for innovation across cross-cutting fields such as signal processing, machine learning, computer systems, communications and networking, cybersecurity, robotics and control systems, nanoelectronics, and cyber-physical systems.
The program prepares students to conduct original research in electrical and computer engineering and to impact society as innovative technical leaders in their respective fields. Students who graduate from the program enjoy a broad range of opportunities from the academic track, involving teaching and research, to research and development in the industrial and government sectors.
The PhD program is open to full-time and part-time students, and requires coursework, a qualifying exam, a teaching assignment, a dissertation proposal and research competency exam, a research seminar, dissertation research, and a dissertation defense.
PhD in Information Technology
The PhD in Information Technology (INFT) is a signature degree of the College of Engineering and Computing (CEC). The program focuses on the science, engineering, and technology of information processing, an area of study ripe for innovation in a world driven more and more by data. It accommodates rigorous and cross-disciplinary PhD study that does not fit with PhD program requirements of a single CEC department.
The Digital Forensics concentration emphasizes preparatory coursework from the school’s digital forensics curriculum and closely related areas. After coursework completion, students work with a dissertation advisor and committee to initiate and execute research in one or more aspects of the digital forensics domain.
